Business decision-making cycles are highly collaborative, and e-mail is only a small part of the technology solution. Think outside the in-box. Join the millions of users who benefit from increased productivity through Lotus Notes client software infused with collaboration.

Version 8.5.3:

Improve your mail experience through the use of managed mail replicas. Many Lotus Notes mail users have optimized their mail experience by accessing a local replica of their mail instead of on the IBM® Lotus® Domino® server. But some users don't know how to create or maintain a local replica. Now, Lotus Domino administrators can create and configure local replicas through policies using the new managed mail replica feature.

Easily determine which archive you have open among multiple archives. When you are working in an archive, the title will say "Archive" and then the name of the archive.

Save mail messages in a .eml file format

View, as well as reserve, rooms and resources in your calendar. And private iCalendar feeds can now be added to your calendar.

Make your contacts or groups private, and gain more control over which addresses are added to your recent contacts list.

Compliance with 2009 Federal Desktop Core Configuration requirements.

Mac OS X 10.5.5 or later

Download Now

Some demonstration videos are available.

iCalamus is a desktop publishing solution that allows you to create documents with text, photos and other visual elements. Some demonstration videos are available.
The unregistered version of iCalamus already offers a cool feature: You can create professional photo books and calendars like in the full version and order high-quality prints at the Photographerbook company. The Photographerbook document service in iCalamus even supports iPhoto calendars (and iPhoto books coming soon) which can be printed at Photographerbook at a lower price.

iCalamus has been developed completely new for Apple's operating system. iCalamus is an excellent choice for all layout purposes from simple posters and business letters over complex layouted magazines up to books and scientific works. Complete Unicode support and the smart PDF import offer easy access to creating and layout work. The reasoned user interface with its low learning curve guarantees for fast success. iCalamus doesn't limit your layout freedom by offering prepared layouts. Its practical tools offer all options for your own creative and productive layout work.

iCalamus is a modular program which will grow in future by external modules, even from third-party developers. Therefore invers Software will create an Open Development Area (ODA) and publish the plug-in interface. iCalamus has been developed in Objective C with intensive usage of Apple's Cocoa library.

You can import all image and text formats which are supported by Mac OS X into iCalamus documents. Images from digital cameras scanners or iPhoto libraries can be imported as well as whole web page content and PDF documents. Grab text content from large PDF documents easily for further text processing. Elaborated masking options and many predefined, partly dynamically changeable frame shapes offer freedom for creativity. Working in precise measurement units is the other side of the iCalamus world. Use virtual copies for multiple document elements and change them afterwards with a few mouse clicks.

Print output uses all printers which are supported by Mac OS X. Optionally output documents in various PDF formats (e.g. PDF-X, encrypted PDF, PDF Fax).

Version 1.25:

Photographerbook:

Fix: Photographerbook no longer offers print lacquer. Therefore, we have disabled the relevant options in the Document Service inspector for now.

Fix: [691]: Minor text adjustments.

Miscellaneous:

Fix: A new untitled document will be created when no document is opened and the running app has been double-clicked or re-activated by a click on the app icon in the Dock. (This is the expected behaviour for document-based applications as requested by Apple's User Interface Guide.)

Fix: Scroll bars now are always visible in Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).

New: A Spanish version of iCalamus is also available, localized by Manuel Angel Amaro Carmona.

Mac OS X 10.4.5 or later

Download Now

Araxis Find Duplicate Files allows you to de-clutter your hard disk by finding, viewing and managing files with duplicate content, whatever they're named. Free 7-day trial.

Version 2011.200:

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is now supported (tested with Developer Preview 4 + update). This replaces support for Mac OS X Leopard. Customers using Leopard may, of course, continue to use older releases of FDF. [I12678]

The Using Araxis Find Duplicate Files help topic now recommends against scanning your entire system drive, but suggests instead that specific folders (for example, those containing documents or images) be scanned. Although Find Duplicate Files is highly optimized to scan folders quickly, including unnecessary folders can significantly increase the time it takes to generate results. Scanning the entire system drive also risks including essential system or application files in the results, which you might then accidentally delete. [I12568]

When manually selecting files in the Items found in the last scan table, the corresponding files will now also be pre-selected in the preview pane. (Note that changing the selection in the preview pane continues not to affect the selection in the found items table.) [I12665]

The FDF application bundle has been renamed to ‘Araxis Find Duplicate Files’ from ‘Find Duplicate Files’. Copying this release to your Applications folder will not therefore replace an older release. You may therefore wish to move the older release to the Trash. [I12642]

Filenames are no longer overly abbreviated in the preview pane. [I12662]

The highlight colour of selected items in the preview pane now changes depending upon whether the preview pane has input focus. [I12664]

Preview thumbnails are now centred rather than bottom-aligned in their containing space. Filenames are highlighted with the system highlight colour specified in the Mac OS X System Preferences. The background colour for selected item icons now matches that used in Finder (typically a light grey). [I12649]

The Folders to be scanned table can now be resized down to just two rows. This allows more room for the items found table and preview pane on small displays. [I12650]

The preview pane no longer shows vertical scrollbars when they are not needed. [I12657]

Selected items in the preview pane no longer have their tops truncated when they are scrolled out of, and then back into, view. [I12691]

The application window is now displayed upon startup on Lion DP4 + update, even when FDF had been download with Safari. [I12745]

The Process Files facility now works correctly on Lion (DP4 + update) when launching a sandboxed application such as Mac OS X Preview. [I12634]

Saved folder sets can now be opened on Lion DP4 + update. This change has necessitated changing the extension of saved folder sets from .fdf to .findduplicatefiles. Rename any existing .fdf files accordingly to use them with this release of FDF. [I12624]

The FDF application bundle .plist file now correctly identifies the version of the application. This should improve compatibility with certain third-party services such as MacUpdate. [I12553]

FDF application window captions now include the name of the application. [I10962]

The small circular panel resize thumbs no longer appear to be slightly blurry at certain window widths. [I12681]

The major version number of FDF is now 2011, to indicate the year of release. [I12342]

The link in the online help to Apple’s list of System-Declared Uniform Type Identifiers (UTIs) has been updated. [I12146]

A typographical error in the help has been addressed. [I12012]

Mac OS X 10.6 or later

Download Now

The developer has accordingly added the option of a Parental Control mode, which can be chosen on first running this application.
Browser is a Browser. A browser with WebKit inside - thus there is no need to tell you about the browsing experience. There's simply is no better way to surf the web.

So - why another one? Because browsing should be about finding - not searching. Finding websites, content, bookmarks and pages stored for reading later.

Tag it, baby! Tired of searching for bookmarks? Need your brain for more important tasks than remembering URLs? That's why Browser allows to tag bookmarks and directly open them by simply searching for such a tag. And you only have to remember a single one.

Lots more.

This US$69 bundle offers a set of professionally designed slides. These templates map out the kinds of data most speakers want to communicate, providing specific elements you can customize. Called "Dark," this first release includes a clean presentation style that would feel at home at any boardroom or conference.

From tables to bullet lists to key point images, Slidevana offers a unified design that easily translates into high quality presentations. It's like a Keynote version of those graphic design and color harmony cookbooks you can purchase at art school bookstores. But instead of general graphic layout, Slidevana focuses on the most common presentation challenges.

Slides are self documenting. They tell you what they do and how you use them in the presentation. It's then up to you to add your content and match it to the various tasks in your talk. There are slides for describing the talk's takeaway, slides for providing the current section context within a whole talk overview, slides for presenting related points in a single overview, and slides for factoring before and after comparisons.

From tables to pyramids to Venn diagrams to phased cycles, Slidevana has many of the most common discussion flows covered. There's a real wealth of coherent elements, all of which fit together by design.

Slidevana includes over 130 slides in its template. A fair number of those introduce sections, and there's a bit of redundancy such as 4 charts worth of duplicate shapes, all presented with distinct key colors. Even so, there's enough useful content here to satisfy anyone looking to create a slick presentation.

Slidevana's templates work on both the Mac and iOS versions of Keynote, although I think they are more easily used on the Mac side of things. The purchase price includes both, so you do not have to choose when buying. A PowerPoint version is promised for the near future.

At $69, Slidevana is clearly targeted towards business purchasers. What you get for that price is a smart collection of slide design that goes way beyond any of Keynote's built-in templates.

Slidevana provides pro design templates for Keynote originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 08:00:00 EST.

Organise Pro is a database app for small businesses.
If you have a Mac and a small business then this small but powerful database application will keep track of your orders, stock, customer details, 'to do' list and has some basic invoice and accounting functionality.

Now includes ability to export items for Google Product Search.

My ethos is to keep things as uncomplicated and quick to use as possible, leaving you free to run your business with all information at your fingertips.

Organise is small, self-contained and standalone. It doesn't require you to buy, licence or install any other database application.

Version 5.2.1 Pro:

Allows 'offline browsing' - a read-only database can be copied to another computer and the data accessed with the computers disconnected (pro)

New template provided: 'Estimate'

New report: 'New vs Returning customers' for any given time period (Pro)

Report builder guide is now included in the manual for technically-minded users or developers who would like to develop reports which may be of use to others. (pro)

Updates the Prefs section of the manual to include colour highlighting of orders

New field added to Orders - 'newCustomer' - not visible and completed automatically, can be used in reports. Existing orders cannot be populated so will have the default value 'Not known'

New pseudo field added to Orders - 'one' returns the value '1'. This can be used in custom reports to count orders with particular values in a given field. See 'collation' in the Report builder guide in the manual

The website export for Items is now documented for other developers wishing to develop content management system or any other app to use the Item data

Omitted from v5.2 - new 'country' field is implemented in contact paste and default invoice templates

Report manager is more tolerant - custom reports will work if they have the extension 'xml', 'txt' or no extension. Will no longer crash if unexpected file extension is encountered

Mac OS X 10.4 or later

Download Now

VeprIT Photo Sense is designed to make your photographs more attractive quickly and easily, without spending a lot of time and money on learning, purchasing, and using professional photo manipulation software. Photo Sense enhances photos automatically, and allows you to customize results to your liking. It ensures that you get great results very quickly by supporting batch processing and image settings synchronization. In addition, Photo Sense offers a number of creative effects.
In more detail, Photo Sense provides you with:

Professional image enhancement techniques automatically applied to multiple photographs.

Results customization at two levels: semi-automatic and manual.

Batch processing (working with multiple images at a time) in automatic and semi-automatic modes.

Image settings synchronization between photographs (including manual adjustments) to speed-up the workflow.

Crop and straighten tool (its settings can be synchronized between images of the same size, providing batch operation).

Batch image rotation.

Batch image resizing (down-sampling).

Batch image format conversion.

A number of creative effects (applied in a batch mode).

Non-destructive operation.

Convenient ways to compare photos before and after processing, including a side-by-side comparison.

Instead of adjusting every photograph manually, as required in traditional image editors, just let Photo Sense process multiple photos completely automatically. Then save the results you like. If you wish to improve the automatic results, choose what adjustments should be applied to particular photographs (the semi-automatic customization). Furthermore, you can fine-tune the results manually. Finally, you can give your photos an artistic finishing touch by applying creative effects.

The unique automatic photo enhancement algorithm implemented in Photo Sense embraces everything its developers learned during over 4 years of professional photography experience. The only shortcoming the application has compared to manual processing is the lack of human vision, which sometimes can lead to a suboptimal choice of automatic image processing parameters. With the tools provided by Photo Sense (two customization levels, batch processing, image settings synchronization etc.) you can easily and quickly perfect the automatic results.

Version 1.7.0:

Customizable aspect ratio in the crop tool.

Other Crop & Straighten tool improvements.

Double mouse click in Preview zooms to 100% or fits.

Important bug fix that could occasionally lead to the application crash.

Minor bug fixes and user interface improvements.

Mac OS X 10.5 or later

Download Now

Amazion is the latest, with a new Kindle ad that takes aim at the iPad for its poor reading conditions in direct sunlight, and its heavy price tag.

Amazon has actually poked fun at the struggle iPad users face when trying to use their device in the sun in previous commercials. But its latest also goes after iPad prices, which, as the ad highlights would get you two Kindle Fire tablets and a Kindle e-reader instead.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sulfQHdvyEs

There’s no denying that the Kindle Fire’s $199 price tag is attractive, but I’m sure most would argue that price isn’t the only factor to consider when purchasing a new tablet; the user experience also has to be taken into account.

That’s one thing the Kindle Fire cannot beat.

[via The Next Web]

It seems the iPad was the gift of choice for many children this past Chinese New Year, and now those youngsters are having a hard time putting their tablets aside. It seems the iPad was the gift of choice for many children this past Chinese New Year, and now those youngsters are having a hard time putting their tablets aside. Exasperated parents don't know what to do when their tots refuse to hand over the iPad, and they're afraid iPad use may impede their children's education.

It may seem silly to non-parents, but as a parent myself, I can confirm this report. My kids are enthralled with the iPad. They will creep into a corner, turn down the volume and play games. They will even sneak the iPad to bed and <strike>read</strike> play games under the covers.

Instead of fighting against the machine, parents should consider embracing the iPad. Get an OtterBox case, disable Wi-Fi, and set up a password so you can restrict access to the device. Remove the time-waster type games and fill the iPad with learning apps. You may discover this system gives you the ideal balance; the kids get their iPad fix, and you can rest easy knowing their use is solely educational.

If you're a parent whose children use an iPad, how do you manage their usage? We would love to hear what works (or doesn't work) for you.

[via M.I.C. With the convenient text-notes system, you’ll be able to not only save texts, but also to enhance them with a variety of images, files, and archives, and comments. The data for your project will all be concentrated in one single document, and you will be able to create an infinite number of similar collections of information.

You won’t have to worry any more about the safekeeping of your data because all you need to do is transfer the Quick Well document to a new spot and you’ll have on hand all the data you’ve created and imported.

Quick Well give you the ability to quickly share data with your friends and coworkers through email, as well as to export notes to a text file. Quick Well's flexible settings make it easy and comfortable to use this program.
You can:

Save and sort your ideas and thoughts from the various areas of your life (leisure time, work, at school);

Structure the materials according to your research and writing;

Import into each separate topic files of the following formats: png, gif, jpg, jpeg, tif, tiff, zip, pdf, txt, doc, rtf, pages;

Peruse the contents of the files imported into the program;

Export the added files onto a hard disk;

Add commentaries to each separate topic;

Copy the text content into any text editor and keep the original fields and formatting.

It's a magnificent decoration for any desktop. deepClock doesn't burden the desktop with unnecessary information. The program just displays a beautiful and unique clock on your Mac's desktop. This is so little and so much at the same time! Among the program combines, there still exist some small ones which perform only one or two functions but do that on a high level. deepClock is one of them!

This is a beautiful analog clock which you can place anywhere on your desktop on your main monitor or you can move it to a secondary monitor as well.

The beautiful picture is enhanced by sound effects creating a realistic environment. If you need to turn the sound effects off, you can do that from the Settings panel. From that same panel, you can select the position for the clock (above all other windows or standard placement). You can also set the clock to show on all spaces as well as in fullscreen regime.

The program offers six clock styles for you to choose from.

If the clock is set to the standard placement from the menu "Bring deepClock to Front" and "Show Clock" , you can always bring it to the forefront.

You wouldn't have to worry anymore about launching the program every time you turn on your Mac. The convenient Run At Login option in your Settings menu will take care of that, and your deepClock will be ready to work every time you turn your Mac on.

In our new version, we're planning to add new stunning styles which you wouldn't be able to ignore; an option for adding voice reminders will be added. The site will feature additional styles which you will be able to download for free directly from the program. And much more!

Sign up for the mailing list on the developer's site in the "Subscribe" section so that you can always be aware of the newest information about improvements and new programming products.

Features:

9 variants style of clock

Low CPU usage

Movable clock

Keep clock on top of all windows

Show clock in all spaces

The latest update to Alfred adds a selection of smart new features, one of which is a new way of grabbing selected text from any Mac app and pushing it straight into one of your other Alfred actions – such as a web search, for example.

It’s a cool little feature but a little hard to find, so here’s how to set it up. You’ll need to have paid for the Alfred Powerpack to make it work.

In Alfred’s preferences, go to Hotkeys and click the little plus symbol at the bottom-right. In the list that appears, click General, then Show Alfred (as shown above).

Now you’ll be able to configure an alternative way of invoking the Alfred command window.

At the top, you can choose a keyboard combo. I usually call up Alfred with Command+Space, so for this alternative I’ve set up Shift+Command+Space.

This grabs whatever text I’ve selected and puts it into Alfred. The other options below the key combo setting allow you to add a keyword in front – in my case, I’ve used the letter ‘l’, which is already set up inside Alfred as a shortcut to Google’s “I’m Feeling Lucky”.

Result? I can select text anywhere, hit four keys in rapid succession, and see the top Google result. (Which, despite Google’s flaws in other areas, is still almost always the one I want.)

Got any useful Alfred tips or shortcuts of your own? Share them in the comments.

Find:
Search for torrents or browse artist-sponsored content, directly from your software interface.

Get:
Download torrents and manage your files in the torrent manager.

Play:
It's better than ever with buttons for Play and Stream right where you can see them.

Version 2.0.2 (beta):

Added option to ignore subdirectories in autoload folder

Added option to duplicate smart RSS feed

Added option to start µTorrent automatically when Mac starts

Show number of completed torrents in dock icon

Fixed hang on exit

Fixed enabling/disabling DHT

Fixed file extension when changing download location

Fixed smart RSS feed to correctly display matched items

Mac OS X 10.5 or later

Download Now

Source: FOSS Patents. Click to enlarge.

It took a Techmeme news cycle for the import of Google's (GOOG) letter to the IEEE -- the nonprofit organization that sets technical standards for everything from AC/DC converters to Wi-Fi networks -- to sink in.

Early reports praised the company for joining Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (MSFT) in their calls for adherence to the "fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory" licensing terms that IEEE members promise to honor when they submit their patented technology for consideration as an industry standard.

It wasn't until FOSS Patents' Florian Mueller got his hands on the text and spotted the telling third paragraph that the tone of the news coverage changed. The paragraph states, in language it describes as "irrevocable," that when Google is through buying Motorola (MOT) and its 17,000 patents, it is prepared to ask for the same "maximum per-unit royalty of 2.25%" that Motorola is demanding of Apple for every iPhone sale

Apple has complained in European courts that Motorola's demand is unfair, unreasonable and totally discriminatory.

Mueller agrees. "2.25% of the selling price of the product as a whole," he wrote, "is absolutely out of step with the concept of FRAND and with industry practice."

To outsiders, 2.25% may not seem like a lot, but consider this: The online database maintained by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute lists 4,956 standards covering 117,964 patents filed by 175 companies. If each of them demanded 2.25% every time a competitor tried to build a compatible device, the industry would grind to a halt.

One can only imagine what Steve Jobs would say to Google's latest gambit. The proprietary technology he felt Google had "stolen" (his word) from Apple to build Android was original work, and not something Apple had asked to be made an industry standard. To try to create an equivalence with so-called essential patents -- at least one of which dates back to the age of the pager -- that Motorola promised at the time to share fairly with all comers may be the modern definition of chutzpah.

UPDATE: Pando Daily's MG Siegler reminds us what David Drummond, Google's chief legal counsel, wrote last August, before the Motorola acquisition plan was announced. In a blog post entitled "When patents attack Android," he took a firm, principled stance against per-unit royalty fees:

A smartphone might involve as many as 250,000 (largely questionable) patent claims, and our competitors want to impose a "tax" for these dubious patents that makes Android devices more expensive for consumers. They want to make it harder for manufacturers to sell Android devices. Instead of competing by building new features or devices, they are fighting through litigation.

Hmmm.

The letter asks for consistency across the board in how patents are owned and shared, and it also asks for specific rates to be set on possible patent royalties for everyone to follow.

As smartphones and other mobile technology continue to develop and grow, patents on the many components are becoming increasingly more important, both in terms of determining ownership for the research and work put into development and for the licensing fees afforded to those with high profile patents. Apple obviously has good reason to see standards in this area, given how well-heeled it happens to be in the world of patents and innovations.

We'll have to wait and see if the board decides to set up a program of standards as Apple suggests. Even if the board agrees to set standards for these things, it could be a long time before those standards are actually decided on and published.

Apple shows interest in European patent laws originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 06:00:00 EST.
