Perú: Elecciones vecinales 2012 se realizarán por internet

Los ciudadanos del municipio peruano de Miraflores podrán elegir a los candidatos a través de una computadora o equipo móvil, luego de haber sido empadronados por la misma vía. Esta experiencia se realizará por primera vez en las elecciones de Juntas Vecinales del próximo 8 de marzo de 2012.

Los futuros delegados vecinales de Miraflores serán elegidos por los ciudadanos a través de un sistema de voto electrónico por internet que fue aprobado por la Oficina Nacional de Procesos Electorales (ONPE). El proceso requerirá del empadronamiento, también electrónico, para luego poder acceder al voto a través de un link en el sitio oficial del municipio.

El vecino que desee votar se deberá inscribir en el padrón con todos sus datos, incluído su domicilio y número catastral. Luego recibirá un mail con usuario y contraseña válidos para votar. El enlace para el sufragio será habilitado recién el mismo día de las elecciones para evitar generar tendencias anticipadas o posibles ataques a la base.

Sólo será necesario disponer de una computadora con acceso a internet, navegadores Explorer 8 o superior, o Firefox 3.6 o superior. Los resultados de las elecciones vecinales se podrá conocer inmediatamente.

Esta esperiencia está considerada por el gobierno peruano como de interés prioritario ya que se encuentra enmarcada dentro del plan de implementación integral del gobierno electrónico, un proyecto que busca agilizar los procesos de gestión de gobierno para achicar costos y evitar pérdidas de tiempo en los procesos.

Dentro del marco de este plan también se habilitaron cinco parques que cuentan con Wi-Fi gratuito para el acceso libre de los vecinos. Además, las sesiones del Concejo Municipal se realizan con tablets PC donde cada funcionario recibe la información de la sesión y que también pueden ser monitoreados por los vecinos a través de internet.

Oracle Buys Talent Management Solutions Company Taleo For $1.9 Billion

Oracle this morning announced that it is acquiring cloud-based talent management solutions provider Taleo for $46 per share or roughly $1.9 billion, net of Taleo’s cash and debt. Taleo’s solutions basically help organizations attract, motivate and retain human capital, and will service to boost Oracle’s Public Cloud offering.

The transaction is expected to close in the Summer of 2012. Here’s how Oracle pitches the buy:

Together, Oracle and Taleo expect to create a comprehensive cloud offering for organizations to manage their Human Resource operations and employee careers.

The combination is expected to empower employees and managers to effectively manage careers throughout their entire employment, enable organizations to retain talent and optimize costs, and improve the employee experience through faster on boarding and better collaboration with team members via social media.

Until the deal closes, Oracle and Taleo will continue to operate independently. According to Taleo, more than 5,000 organizations use its solutions today.

Its stock price closed at just south of $39 yesterday.

Desde hace un tiempo que se viene rumoreando con la existencia y el lanzamiento de Google Drive, que vendría a ser una suerte de competidor directo para Dropbox. En este servicio de alojamiento de archivos en la nube, los usuarios con cuenta de Google (casi todo el mundo, ¿no?) podrán acceder a sus archivos desde cualquier parte. Tal como estamos acostumbrados con Google Docs, pero para todo tipo de archivos.

Ahora, el periódico The Wall Street Journal -citando a fuentes en conocimiento del tema- sostuvo que Google Drive vería la luz dentro de las próximas “semanas o meses” y esto además vendría de la mano con una aplicación para el sistema operativo móvil Android para poder acceder a los archivos desde virtualmente cualquier parte.

Según el diario económico, este nuevo servicio de Google sería gratuito, pero al igual que Docs, tendría un costo por un espacio de almacenamiento mayor para “una gran cantidad de archivos”.

¿Estarán ya un tanto tensos en Dropbox o Box.net? Sin duda la irrupción de un servicio de estas características, para una masa tan amplia de usuarios (sobre todo pensando en su aplicación a nivel empresarial), integrándolo con otros servicios y rebajando los precios.

A 10-Step Process to a Successful Freelance Career

As many freelancers eventually realize, going into business for yourself means you actually take on two separate (very different) full time businesses. How’s that for a surprise when you originally thought that you could blissfully code away and somehow the money would start rolling in?

This is actually what happens on your path to freelance success:

You dream. It starts with the fantasy of going freelance. First, you dream of the time that you can shed your cubicle life and work from home in your fuzzy slippers, and think that somehow, eventually, the money will start coming in.
You dive in. You actually shed your old job, set yourself up as a freelancer, and code like no one has ever coded before—both in duration and depth—sure that your new app will somehow equal the success of Angry Birds and you will be lauded in social media circles while visions of IPOs dance in your head.
Your work piles up. The money isn’t rolling in as expected—or at all—and you have to drag yourself to the keyboard each morning because your initial surge of enthusiasm for the freelance life has suddenly come face to face with reality. Bummer.
You have a light-bulb moment. Hopefully, this happens sooner rather than later. You realize that as a freelancer you have actually taken on two businesses—the business of doing what you want to do (blogging, coding, writing, photographing, etc) and the business of running a business. Two separate and completely different things. Yikes.
You scramble. You try to recall every obscure fact you learned in Business 101 in college. You realize that the one intro to business class you took a decade ago is absolutely no help in your current situation. You try not to panic.
You regroup. You put your blogging/writing/coding work on hold for a bit and realize you need to quickly get grasp some solid business skills. Terms like marketing, financials, cash flow, P & L statements, corporate structures, social media campaigns, and the like suddenly become a part of your vocabulary.
You seek help. Fortunately the internet is awash in business advice and resources. Planning a marketing campaign is as simple as hitting up Google. Your local SBA offers free evening classes in your community where you can learn some business skills and network with like-minded individuals. All is not lost.
You get organized. Now that you know you have two separate and equally important businesses to run, you find yourself much more organized. Mornings are dedicated to the business of running your emerging empire. Afternoons are dedicated to coding, writing, and the like. You learn to focus, prioritize, and become productive.
You transform into a business person. No longer are you an obscure freelance blogger. You are now CEO of You, Inc. and you treat your business appropriately, namely by making sure that you are as active in marketing your services as you are at productively working. You learn how to set your rates competitively, as well as find clients and make sales. You learn how to work with clients of all types and position your freelance business in the marketplace.
You triumph! You integrate the two parts of your business successfully. Now the world will be graced by your unique freelance services and your bank account will be graced with cold, hard cash. Congratulations!

It’s an exhausting and emotional journey, but well worth the effort. What challenges are you facing now on your path to freelance success?

Glam Media Cooks Up Newest Content Vertical With Foodie.com

Glam Media, one of the largest publishing and advertising networks on the Web, is debuting its newest branded vertical—Foodie.com. As its name indicates, Glam’s newest vertical is aimed at covering all things food, and features a combination of content from food critics, bloggers, chefs, restaurateurs and other “food influentials.”

For background, Glam’s various publishing verticals have a reach of 200 million unique monthly visitors globally, and is particularly popular amongst female audiences. Glam Media has more than 2,500 publishers organized across multiple vertical categories online including Glam.com for Women, Glam Entertainment for Adults, Brash.com for Men and Bliss.com for health and wellness. Glam also announced the acquisition of Ning in September.

As Glam CEO Samir Arora explains, there’s a large opportunity in providing quality content on recipes, restaurant reviews and tends in one place. And food has been one of the fastest growing ad verticals on Glam’s network of sites (Betty Crocker is an advertiser on Foodie.com).

Foodie features content from 100 food authors such as Inspired Taste, Kitchen Confidante and The Bakery Spot and includes more than 1,000 recipes at launch. Hay proyectos que cuando empiezas a conocer un poco llaman poderosamente la atención y un ejemplo es Freepik un metabuscador de recursos gratuitos para diseñadores, bloggers, y todo aquel que necesite buscar contenido de calidad gratuito. Una iniciativa de Alejandro Sánchez que en tan solo un año de funcionamiento ha logrado las impresionantes cifras de 2.7 millones de usuarios únicos al mes y 13.5 millones de páginas vistas al mes.

Así nos cuenta Alejandro cómo ha puesto en marcha Freepik: empecé este proyecto para mi propia necesidad, ya que yo soy desarrollador y siempre estaba buscando imágenes, vectores y psd gratis en muchísimos blogs que colgaban ese contenido o en bancos de imágenes de pago que utilizaban galerías de archivos gratis como gancho. Es eso perdia mucho tiempo porque tenia que buscar en más de 50 sitios y echaba en falta un sitio que buscara por ti y ordenara los resultados de una forma lógica y fácil de usar.

El modelo de negocio de Freepik pasa por la publicidad y por la afiliación con los bancos de imágenes que ofrecen contenido gratuito y también cuentas de pago para acceder a determinados contenidos. Este modelo le está reportando a Freepik muy buenos resultados que acompañados por el gran tráfico que tiene hace que sea un proyecto de los que llaman mucho la atención.

Quantum Tap gives you a good reality check on how much water you ‘think’ you use and the actual. Working on the lines of how syringe works, the tap activates by pulling up a pump action-handle. Scaled markings on the stem of the handle indicate the amount of water that will be released by pulling the handle to a specific correlating height. You can choose how much water you want to use and pull up the handle accordingly. The faucet looks neat and the idea pretty simple; my only concern is soapy hands and a messy tap.

Quantum Tap is a 2011 red dot design concept winner.
